Manhattan: 8th Street - 4th Avenue

8th Street, at the intersection of Fourth Avenue, Astor Place, and the northern end of Lafayette Street. The car track in the foreground is on 8th Street; the street car is going west on Astor Place past Bible House, which however, has its own house numbers instead of Astor Place house numbers. Bible House was built in 1852 by the American Bible Society. In the background, on the west side of Fourth Avenue, may be seen the newer of the John Wanamaker stores, built around 1905.
