Manhattan: 61st Street (East) - Avenue A

(1) 421 East 61st Street, north side, between York and First Aves. This house was built in 1790 as a wedding gift to one of John Adams' daughters. At the time of this picture it is occupied by the Museum of the City of New York. In 1931, however, the Museum will move uptown to its new building on the east side of Fifth Avenue from 103rd to 104th Streets, and this house will be occupied by the Colonial Dames of America.
