Manhattan: 2nd Ave. - 34th St. E.

Second Avenue, north from East 35th Street as viewed from the extremity of the Downtown Station at 34th Street of the Second Avenue "El". To the right is St. Gabriel's Park, the white building housing the New York Public Library branch of that name, the Hall structure, and the Church proper on 37th Street. All of these will be gone in early 1940 as this entire block will be cleared for the plaza approach to the Queens-Midtown Tunnel. Note in the background the group of apartment buildings forming Tudor City. Close observation will distinguish the fact of almost completion of same. Subsequently other units will be erected and the skyline changed, thereby obliterating a view of the long roofed Hospital for Ruptured and Crippled Children.
