Manhattan: Park Avenue - 37th Street

(1) Park Avenue, north from and including 38th Street, seen from 37th Street, and showing the west side of the Avenue. The white building on the N.W. corner of 38th Street is the 70 Park Avenue Hotel. Above it is the Princeton Club on the N.W. corner of 39th Street, and the Murray Hill Hotel from 40th to 41st Streets. The Hotel Belmont, rising behind the Murray Hill, is to be demolished in 1931, as are the buildings on the S.W. corner of 40th Street. To the left of the Belmont may be seen part of the old Lincoln Bank Building about to be demolished to make way for the new Lincoln Building at 60 East 42nd Street. The avenue is cut off by the Grand Central Station, with the New York Central Building rising directly behind it. March 10, 1929. P. L. Sperr, Photographer. The Lincoln Building towers behind the Princeton Club and the Murray Hill Hotel. The buildings on the S.W. corner of 39th Street, demolished 1933, have been replaced by a parking place for automobiles -- the wire fence is visible to a sharp eye. The old houses on the S.W. corner of 40th Street were replaced in 1933 by the low, white commercial structure visible between the Princeton Club and the Murray Hill Hotel. On the east side of the Avenue the houses on the N.W. corner of 39th Street have been demolished, but the Little House, which replaces them, is set back too far from the street to be visible in this picture.
