Manhattan: City Hall Park - N. Hale statue.
City Hall Park: The Nathan Hale statue located in the westerly portion; the Broadway side and viewed northeastward towards Park Row. To the left is the City Hall, to the right, the Tribune Building and in the center background, the Pulitzer (World) Building. King's Handbook of New York of 1893, page 184 states that this statue by MscMonnies is to be erected here by the Sons of the Revolution. MacMonnies exhibited this in the Paris Salon of 1891 and was awarded a second gold medal, this being the first time an American sculptor had attained this honor. Note the subway construction in the midground. Evidently the City Hall station and loop of the I.R.T. is in progress. 1900-01 Gift of Urbrock Collection
