Manhattan: West Street - Houston Street (West)

(1) West Street, east side, from West Houston Street (formerly Hammersley Street), opposite Pier 39, North River, to Leroy Street, opposite Pier 41. The lunch room on the corner at the right was supposed to have been in the hands of one family for a hundred years. Hammersley Street (it was absorbed in 1858 by Houston Street, and lost its own name) was, prior to the redistricting of 1917, the south boundary of the Ninth Ward, which was roughly identical with "Greenwich Village."
