Manhattan: West Street - Houston Street (West)

(1) West Street, east side, north from No. 346, north of West Houston Street (formerly Hammersly Street), opposite Pier 39, North River. October 25, 1927. P. L. Sperr. (2) The same, four years later, after the buildings north to Clarkson Street have been cleared away for the site of the New York Central & Hudson River Railroad's new St. John's Park Freight Terminal. Both of these pictures show the boys on horseback who rode ahead of trains on Tenth Avenue and West Street before the building of the elevated roadbed along the west side of Washington Street (q.v.).
