Manhattan: 14th Street (East) - Irving Place

East 14th Street, st, adjoining and east of the N.E. corner of Irving Place (left), showing prominently the original Academy of Music, built in 1854 as a permanent home for Italian opera. It opened on October 2nd of that year, with a performance of Norma, by the Griel and Mario Company. Interior destroyed by fire, May 22, 1866. Between 1854-66 Gift of Urbrock Collection
