General view - Midtown Manhattan - 42nd Street.

A general view of the midtown Manhattan sector containing the Grand Central - 42nd Street zone: Here tremendous building operations have been in progress in the past few years and the zone is now dotted with skyscrapers and more are rising every day. The new type of "set-back" or pyramided architecture may be observed. This was developed as a result of the New York Zoning law designed to keep the streets light and well ventilated. The majestic slim skyscraper in the foreground is the new No. 10 East 40th Street Bldg. The street on the left is the famed Fifth Avenue. Just beyond the 10 E. 40th St. Bldg. is the Lefcourt-National Bldg. To the right is the square massive tower of the new Grand Central Bldg. that adjoins the quadrangular station.
