Manhattan: Lafayette Street - 4th Street (East)

Lafayette Street (Elm Street), north from but not including East 4th, to and including East 8th Streets (where it terminates), showing construction work in progress on the Interborough Rapid Transit Co. (I.R.T.) Subway. In the background is shown the Germania Theatre, adjoining the N.W. corner of Fourth Ave. It was later razed and on its site was erected (between 1902 and 1905) the 14-story main building of the John Wanamaker Department Store.
