Manhattan: 5th Avenue - 23rd Street

Fifth Avenue, west side, north from, but not including, 23rd Street, showing also the east side of Broadway from the same point. At the left is the famous New York landmark, the Fifth Avenue Hotel, built in 1859. It was considered one of the finest hotels in the world but its preeminence is being challenged by the new Waldorf-Astoria, a part of which shows in the centre background; and it is doomed to destruction in 1908. The row of white houses on the right is on the north side of 27th Street. From 26th to 27th Streets, hidden by the trees, is a clearing on the former site of the Brunswick Hotel, on which the new Brunswick Building will be erected. About 1905. Wurts Brothers.
