Manhattan: 5th Avenue - 24th Street

Fifth Avenue south from 24th Street, showing at the right a close view of the famous old Fifth Avenue Hotel just before its demolition. From its beginning in 1859 this hotel was closely connected with New York history, and to a lesser degree national history. Now, with the competition of the new Waldorf-Astoria at 33rd Street, evil days have fallen on the Fifth Avenue, and soon it will be nothing but a memory, with the Fifth Avenue Building replacing it. 1908.
