Manhattan: University Place - Waverly Place
University Place, north from Waverly Place (Washington Square North). University Place is a continuation of Wooster Street; the name University Place was applied to this part of it some time in the 1840's. New York University was incorporated in 1831, and shortly thereafter built its first building on Washington Square South at Waverly Place. February 24, 1933. P. L. Sperr.
