175 to 183 East Houston Street, south side, from Allen (right), east to Orchard Streets. In the foreground is shown construction work on the Independent System Subway (Eighth Ave. subway). Also visible (right) is Allen Street, east side, south from East Houston Street. No. 208 Allen Street, a 2 ½-story frame house that stood at this corner in 1927 is now gone. The adjoining building No. 173 East Houston Street was demolished at the same time; both as a part of the widening project of Allen Street. June 6, 1930. P. L. Sperr.
