Manhattan: Houston Street (East) - 2nd Avenue

138 to 142 (left to right) East Houston Street, north side, east of Second Ave., as seen when viewed northward on Forsyth Street. The entire block of houses of which these were a part, were demolished to facilitate the construction of the Independent System Subway (Eighth Ave. Subway). The site is now a public playground. On the extreme left appears buildings at the S.W. corner of East Houston and Forsyth Streets, which today (1937) are gone; the same being a portion of the Sarah Delano Roosevelt Park. July 13, 1929.
