Manhattan: Hudson Street - Spring Street
Hudson Street, south from Spring Street, a view taken in connection with the digging of the Holland Vehicular Tunnel under Spring Street. The work began the previous October; and the tunnel will be opened in 1927, around Thanksgiving. Nos. 298, 296, 294-292 Hudson Street, at and adjoining the S.E. corner of Spring Street, under which the westbound tube of the tunnel curves, have been demolished. No 294-292 was the Duane Methodist Episcopal Church, established 1797, which moved up here after the burning of the original church in Duane Street, in 1861. Not long after 1925 this church will settle down in the old house at 574 Broome Street, on the Holland Tunnel Plaza, two doors away from Our Lady of Vilna. September, 1923.
