Manhattan: 11th Avenue - 56th Street (West)

Eleventh Avenue, east side, north from West 56th Street, showing gasoline stations lining this thoroughfare which at 59th Street becomes West End Avenue. To the east of the Avenue the new roadbed of the New York Central Railroad is under construction, slanting westward to pass under Eleventh Avenue at 58th - 59th Streets. The loft structure bearing the "Lincoln" sign is on the north side of West 57th Street between this Avenue and Tenth. Note the absence of the former gas holders of the New Amsterdam Gas Co. which formerly stood on the westerly portion of the 58th - 59th Street block; being between the farthest gas station and the warehouse.
