A general view of the midtown Manhattan Fifth Avenue zone above 42nd Street as photographed northward from the 25 story building at No. 309-13 Madison Avenue that adjoins the S. E. corner of 42nd Street. At the right margin appears the Charles & Co. Bldg. and the Hotel Biltmore. In the lower left corner is the rooftop of the Manhattan Hotel. This is shortly to become the National City Co. Bldg. The excavation in the foreground is for the Canadian Pacific Bldg. This site was formerly occupied by St. Bartholmews Church.
