Manhattan: Madison Avenue - 23rd Street

Madison Avenue, north from 23rd Street, showing the east side of Madison Square, and four buildings on 26th Street. The smallest of these, the third from the corner, is the last of the old brownstone houses which used to fill that block, and will be rebuilt before long. The four-story building on the corner (A.S.P.C.A.) was built shortly prior to 1900. On the N.E. corner of 24th Street is the latest of the Metropolitan Life Insurance buildings (1920), which replaced the Madison Square Presbyterian Church (built 1906). On the N.E. corner of 25th Street may be seen the Corinthian columns of the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, erected about 1898. Madison Square Garden (1890-1925) stands in the block from 26th to 27th Streets. About 1922. International News Photos, Inc.
