Manhattan: East River Drive - Gracie Square

East River Drive, at Gracie Square (East 84th Street) showing constructional details depicted by a series of oils by Mrs. John Markell. These were on display at the Municipal Reference Library from April 15th to the 30th of 1940. Titles of same are: Drivers, Hoisting cement blocks, The little green tug and "Buggies." This formed the first stage, the seawall. Constructed by the Federal Government, it enclosed a fill upon which was erected the double decker roadway skirting Carl Schurz Park.
