Manhattan: Houston Street (East) - 2nd Avenue

(1) East Houston Street, west from but not including the Bowery, as seen from the Fisher Building (No. 97-103 East Houston Street, between the Bowery and Chrystie Street). Also shown is a general view of the surrounding area. The buildings on the north side of the street, to the depth of 10 feet were razed to make way for the construction of the Independent System Subway (Eighth Ave. subway). The buildings in the foreground, of which only the upper stories are visible are on the west side of the Bowery. July 17, 1929. P. L. Sperr.
