Manhattan: Washington Square West - 6th Avenue

(1) Washington Square Park, the central and northeastern part, seen from Washington Square West. In the right center is the new comfort station, which early in 1928 replaced the old wooden one. In the center is the fountain, used as a children's swimming pool. On the farther side of the drive is the statue of Garibaldi, erected around 1890. August, 1935. P. L. Sperr. Between the old houses on Washington Square North, and the new New York University building (about 1900) on Washington Square East, rises a new apartment building at 1 University Place, built in 1929.
