Queens: Buhrman's Lane - Alley Road

(1) Alley Park: Burhmans Lane, north side, as seen looking north-west from Alley Road (now, 1937, Alley Park East), showing a group of old buildings belonging to W.C. Buhrman in 1873. In the foreground on the east side of the pond's outlet to Alley Creek and partially submerged is the "Old Mill" said to have been erected in 1752. Beyond it is the general store erected in 1828. In the last house, lived a blacksmith. The map of 1873 shows this house to belong also to W.C. Buhrman. The mill was demolished by fire in 1926. In 1828 the general store and mill were acquired by Benjamin P. Loverre of Flushing, who at that time also owned the old Flushing Hotel, and in 1858 Wm. C. Buhrman took possession and conducted it until 1898. His son, Wm. W. Buhrman, operated both the mill and the general store from 1898 to 1914. The Alley Pond Corporation was the owner in 1926.
