Manhattan: Irving Place - 17th Street

Irving Place, at and adjoining S.W. corner of 17th Street, showing 49 Irving Place, the corner house which is supposed to have been at one time the home of Washington Irving, and is accordingly known as the Washington Irving house. The little railing around the roof of the house is not seen in photographs as early as 1909. Adjoining 47 Irving Place may be seen part of the north wall of the Westminster Hotel, which will be demolished in 1909. About 1900. Gift of W. M. Van Der Weyde. The same, a generation later. The Borgfeldt Building, shown in part at the left, was erected in 1909 on the site of the Westminster Hotel. August 30, 1927. P. L. Sperr.
