Manhattan: Houston Street (East) - 1st Avenue

(1) East Houston Street, north side, east from (No. 214), but not including First Ave. as seen from Ludlow Street. The block of houses, seen conspicuously, were later razed to make room for the construction of the Independent Subway System (Eighth Ave. Subway). July 7, 1929. P. L. Sperr. (2) A detail of the same, showing prominently Nos. 222 to 230 East Houston Street, west of, adjoining and at the N.W. corner of Ave. "A." No. 230, the 5-story house at the corner also bears Nos. 1-3 Ave. A. Shown on the right is a clearance at the S.W. corner of Ludlow Street. These buildings were later demolished during the construction of the Independent Subway System (Eighth Ave. Subway) and today (1937) is a playground. March 13, 1932. P. L. Sperr.
