149 to 135 East Houston Street, south side, from but not including Eldridge (left), to and including Forsyth Streets, showing the Sunshine Theatre (a motion picture house) Nos. 141-143. Also shown is construction work in progress on the Independent System Subway (Eighth Ave. subway). This clearance was created by the demolition of houses which faced on the north side of East Houston and the south side of East 1st Streets. June 6, 1930. P. L. Sperr. Rebuilt 1919 or 20. This was formerly the German Evangelical Mission Church, built about 1840, which afterward (about 1910) removed to Stebbins Ave., Bronx See N.Y. Hist. Soc. Bulletin, Vol. 22, no. 1, Jan. 1938, p. 20
